Why ‘#20for2 #beatparkinson’?
The inspiration for this fun challenge is the annual Brussels 20km event which was due to take place on May 31st but had to be postponed due to the coronavirus public health crisis. For the past six years hundreds of runners – including Parkinson’s patients and their families – have joined the ‘Run for Parkinson’ team to raise money for research to find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. It has always been a great day with lots of positive energy.
We wanted to try to recreate that positive energy and spread it as widely as possible. We hope that the #20for2 #beatparkinson challenge will encourage everyone of all ages (and even pets!) to be active and help to raise awareness of this neurodegenerative disease which affects 40,000 people in Belgium and millions around the world and fund research to find a cure.
It’s easy to join in:
1) BE ACTIVE: Select your preferred physical exercise (running, cycling, skipping, hopping, hula-hooping, yoga) and do it for (at least) 20 minutes/laps/repetitions/distance (your choice). Family members are welcome to join in! Just be sure to take a picture or video of your sporting achievement!
2) DONATE: two euros/participant to the Demoucelle Parkinson Charity via Payconiq or via the fundraising site (see below). Thank you in advance!! And …
3) NOMINATE: two friends to do the challenge. This is a very important final step! By tagging friends, adding the URL https://www.demoucelle.com/blog/charity-post/20for2/ and putting the hashtags #20for2 and #beatparkinson on social media we hope more people will take part and the challenge will spread.
