Well, you will most likely have heard the news by now, the Brussels 20km has become the latest event to be definitively cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, and with it our beloved ‘Run for Parkinson 2020’.
It is, of course, very disappointing – for sporting, personal and fundraising reasons.
Over the past five years, Run for Parkinson’s has motivated many of us to put on our running shoes and stay in shape, while at the same time boosting our spirits by uniting patients, families, friends, colleagues and strangers (or rather new friends) in a shared endeavour to raise funds for Parkinson’s research.
However, we are delighted to say that there is a wonderful alternative: the virtual ‘Brussels Airport Marathon’ between 28 September and 4 October for which the Demoucelle Parkinson Charity is the chosen charity!
We therefore warmly encourage you to sign up via their website, free of charge, and use the specially designed event app to run a distance of your choice (10km, half a marathon or the full marathon…) at a time and place of your choosing OR even run a real course laid out in Brussels, exclusively for this challenge.
You will be asked at the time of registration whether you would like to make a voluntary donation to ‘Run for Parkinson – Demoucelle Parkinson Charity’ and, as always, you can also create your own fundraising page to gather additional donations from your friends and family. Every little bit helps, particularly now when Covid-19 has hampered our ability to do fundraising and therefore support vital Parkinson’s research. With your help, DPC will be able to continue to accelerate progress towards finding a cure!
So, in an unexpected twist, this year ‘Run for Parkinson’ has morphed into an exciting online event, thanks to the Brussels Airport Marathon and we hope to meet all of your ‘virtually’ in just a few weeks!
Be Present. Be Active. Beat Parkinson’s. Together we can do it!
