Run for Parkinson 2015
On May 31st 2015, Patrick and more than 240 persons ran the 20 kilometres of Brussels for the Demoucelle Parkinson Charity. We named the event Run for Parkinson. The objective was to raise money to fund the most promising and advanced projects and to support organizations that were most likely to be critical in finding a cure to Parkinson’s disease. All the proceedings from this event will be used to fund projects chosen in collaboration with the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Patrick and Anne-Marie Demoucelle supported any cost of functioning, operations, and organisation together with our generous sponsor.
The D-day was hard but memorable, the months before were full of physical and administrative preparation but the journey was more than worth it.
We raised more than 100 000€ with the event and we are now loaded with supporters’ love.

- The two associations of Belgian patients (Association Parkinson and Vlaamse Parkinson Liga) were united behind our ‘Run for Parkinson’ initiative
- The alumni associations of the business schools Insead, Harvard, IMD, Columbia etc. supported ‘Run for Parkinson’
- ‘Run for Parkinson’ was sponsored by 5 companies (Alpro, Bain & Company, Brussels Airport, Carglass, and EDF Luminus)
Various corporate teams ran for ‘Run for Parkinson’ (Alpro, Bain & Company, Befimmo, Brussels Airport, Carglass, Cigna, EDF Luminus, Espace Vital, Lundbeck, Private Bank Delen) - In total, 240 runners were running together with Patrick during the 20 km of Brussels
- We were privileged to benefit from the premises of Private Bank Delen as central meeting point for our runners
- After the race, all the Run for Parkinson runners receiveda bottle of Aquarius, kindly offered by Coca-Cola
- We had a great team of volunteers who did everything they could to make this event memorable.

The projects supported thanks to the money raised
We are extremely happy to present you the three promising projects that do benefit from the money collected during the Run for Parkinson event.
(1) PET tracer: This project aims to develop a brain imaging agent for alpha-synuclein, a key protein involved in Parkinson’s Disease (PD) pathology. Such an agent will help (1) diagnose PD earlier, (2) track pathology over time and (3) monitor the efficacy of therapeutics reducing alpha-synuclein aggregates.

(2) nLife Thera project: The biotech company nLife Therapeutics has designed a molecule (NLF-PD-1233) to target specific neurons in the brain to reduce expression of the protein alpha-synuclein (which clumps in the cells of people with Parkinson’s disease). This project will characterize the dose and efficacy of this molecule in a model of Parkinson´s disease (PD) vs. healthy model.

(3) Khondrion project: dit projekt heeft tot doel de doeltreffendheid van de molecule KH176 te testen op ratmodellen. De hypothese is dat deze molecule neuroprotectief is. De molecule in kwestie heeft al positieve (preklinische) resultaten gegeven voor erfelijke mitochondriale aandoeningen. Nu wordt dus getest in welke mate ook positieve resultaten geeft voor de ziekte van Parkinson. More info
